On the edge (Last night i met a drug addict)

I was sitting on the street with my bestfriend, weird as it might sound. We were waiting for our ride when suddenly a man came by and sat down as well. We started talking, he said his name was Robert. He was a bit shaky, said he got out of hospital last night after 6 weeks of struggeling trying to survive two blood clots.

He was young, only 24 years of age still he had the body of an 13 year old boy. He was so thin, his eyes so wide open, his neck and face so pale it was heartbreaking. He talked about his life, and how everyone he ever knew was addicts. He said he wanted out, but it was hard, since normale people like us was afraid of him and ran away whenever he tried speaking to them. I realised he was just like me and everyone i knew, just with the additional problem of course. Somewhere along the road he had made a wrong turn and ended up on the other side. He said he had never been afraid of death before he ended up in hospital and they told him it was a wonder he was still breathing.

I felt like crying but tried not to show it. He told me about his mother and father both being addicts. He was so bright and vibrant tho he was clearly on the edge of life. He told me it was a shame, cause most of his friends ruined the most of their opportunities themselves, by stealing from everyone they knew.

I told him it was my birthday, he began searching his pockets eagerly. He pulled out 10 dollar, told me to have it. At first i refused to take it, and i couldnt imagine a universe where it would be right taking his money. But he insisted and told me it was the least he could do for me, he placed the money in my hand and gave me a hug. His pride was to big to shadder with piddy and his heart to bright to break with sympathy. I offered him a ride, he accepted.

We drove him downtown, and he was greatful, told us we was amazing people. Stay blessed he said, he shut the door behind him and walked down the dark alley.
